Quant à la parole du chef, elle a valeur de contrat social et moral que l’énonciateur doit respecter, même au péril de sa vie. C’est dans ce contexte que Foni Kolman proclama publiquement : « quiconque prononce la mort de mon cheval, Haraw, suivra le même sort » (Jeliba, 2005). Mais deux jours plus tard, Haraw meurt. Un griot est alors chargé d’informer le guerrier. Par sa maîtrise de la parole, le griot réussi à amener Foni Kolman à prononcer lui-même la mort de Haraw, sans s’en rendre compte. Pour respecter sa parole, le guerrier se suicide. L’analyse textuelle qui convoque une approche interdisciplinaire, sera précédée d’un résumé du texte dans lequel la parole de Foni Kolman est une parole d’honneur, qui est vertu et autorité. In the Songhay-Zarma culture of Niger, public speaking is an act of high ethical significance. Thus, the griot's words (jasare) can elevate a chief or simply lead him to his downfall.
