The integration process in the Sahel region, which began on September 16, 2023, with the creation of the Alliance of Sahel States, which aims to “promote economic development” and security in member states, can only be achieved with the support of exemplary citizens who demonstrate dedication to the community and respect its laws. These citizens often mobilize to enforce their rights or demand change in the management of their country's public affairs. This is why there is a tendency today to refer to civic-mindedness in addition to citizenship, in order to reaffirm the nation's expectations of its own sons and daughters. In the AES region, citizen participation in the management of public affairs has taken place in two ways: on the one hand, there has been citizen mobilization for the legitimization of regimes resulting from coups (A); on the other hand, citizens have been involved in the management of public affairs (B). The objective of this contribution is to analyze citizen participation in the management of public affairs in the context of social mobilization within the AES Confederation.
